Ramsey Goes Visibly Pushdown

چکیده
Checking whether one formal language is included in another is vital to many verification tasks. In this paper, we provide solutions for checking the inclusion of the languages given by visibly pushdown automata over both finite and infinite words. Visibly pushdown automata are a richer automaton model than the classical finite-state automata, which allows one, e.g., to reason about the nesting of procedure calls in the executions of recursive imperative programs. The highlight of our solutions is that they do not comprise automata constructions for determinization and complementation. Instead, our solutions are more direct and generalize the so-called Ramsey-based inclusion-checking algorithms, which apply to classical finite-state automata and proved effective there, to visibly pushdown automata. We also experimentally evaluate our algorithms thereby demonstrating the virtues of avoiding determinization and complementation constructions.

Ramsey-Based Inclusion Checking for Dense-Stack Visibly Pushdown Automata
Visibly pushdown automata are popular as they are closed under Boolean operations and determinization. There exist multiple notions of timed pushdown systems like recursive timed automata, densetime pushdown automata. We explore a generalization of visibly pushdown automata over infinite words with parity acceptance condition –in which stack elements have real valued time stamps–named dense-sta...
متن کاملVisibly Pushdown Games
The class of visibly pushdown languages has been recently defined as a subclass of context-free languages with desirable closure properties and tractable decision problems. We study visibly pushdown games, which are games played on visibly pushdown systems where the winning condition is given by a visibly pushdown language. We establish that, unlike pushdown games with pushdown winning conditio...
متن کاملOn the Expressive Power of 2-Stack Visibly Pushdown Automata
Visibly pushdown automata are input-driven pushdown automata that recognize some non-regular context-free languages while preserving the nice closure and decidability properties of finite automata. Visibly pushdown automata with multiple stacks have been considered recently by La Torre, Madhusudan, and Parlato, who exploit the concept of visibility further to obtain a rich pushdown-automata cla...
متن کاملProperties of Visibly Pushdown Transducers
Visibly pushdown transducers form a subclass of pushdown transducers that (strictly) extends finite state transducers with a stack. Like visibly pushdown automata, the input symbols determine the stack operations. In this paper, we prove that functionality is decidable in PSPACE for visibly pushdown transducers. The proof is done via a pumping argument: if a word with two outputs has a sufficie...
متن کاملRegularity Problems for Visibly Pushdown Languages
Visibly pushdown automata are special pushdown automata whose stack behavior is driven by the input symbols according to a partition of the alphabet. We show that it is decidable for a given visibly pushdown automaton whether it is equivalent to a visibly counter automaton, i.e. an automaton that uses its stack only as counter. In particular, this allows to decide whether a given visibly pushdo...
